Teaching objective and requirements
Implant denture is a method which uses artificial dental root embedded in the jaw to restore the missing teeth. Implant dentistry is an integrated subject which combines oral and maxillofacial surgery, prosthodontics, biomaterials science as well as biomedical engineering etc. Implant restoration fundamentally changes traditional restoration theory and method. With the improvement of the living standard in China, restorating of the missing teeth has entered dental implant era.
Implant dentistry course adopts two teaching forms -- teaching and experiment. Through studying this subject, the students shall understand basic theory of implant denture, dental implant related anatomy, biomechanics as well as other fundamentals. Meanwhile they should learn the basic principles of dental implant surgery and methods of dental implant restoration. Through studying this course, the students shall fully understand osteointegration theory and can finish key clinical practices as the dental implant placement , impressions taking and restoration on models.
Teaching contents
The basic teaching contents include, implant dentistry pandect, introduction of dental implants components, structure and classification, anatomic basis for dental implant, biomechanical basis for dental implant, pre-operation imaging examination, basic principles and methods of dental implant surgery, design principles of partial implant denture restoration, design principles of complete implant denture, the development situation of immediate implant and immediate restoration, implants maintenance and care, prognosis and evaluation etc.
