The Study on ‘the Prevention and Evaluation of Children's Dental Caries in Sao Tomé Island’ by the 18th Batch of the Chinese Medical Team has been officially launched by WCSS/WCHS
A year-long study on ‘the Prevention and Evaluation of Children's Dental Caries' in Sao Tomé Island, initiated by the 18th batch of the Chinese medical team in the Democratic Republic of Sao Tome and Principe, has been officially launched. Led by Bo Yang and Yi Wang from the West China School/Hospital of Stomatology (WCSS/WCHS), the project will conduct epidemiology surveys and preventional interventions of dental caries for more than 2000 students.
On November 9, 2023, the project was officially launched at Santana Primary School in S?o Tomé. Key dignitaries and experts participated in the event, including Bin Hu, the Chargé d’affaires of the Chinese Embassy in S?o Tomé and Príncipe, Dias, the designated representative of the Minister of Education of S?o Tomé and Príncipe, Cruz, the principal of Santana Primary School, all members of the 18th Batch of the Chinese Medical Team, and the Chinese anti-malaria and agricultural expert group.
The project will be carried out primarily by Bo Yang and Yi Wang, members of the medical team of our hospital in S?o Tomé and Príncipe. Upon completion, the data will be sorted and analyzed, with a research report submitted to the local health department.
This project will contribute to improving the awareness of oral health and hygiene among the entire population, especially for children, reducing the incidence of dental caries, and promoting positive trends in oral health in Tomé and Príncipe.
