Two Research Teams form WCSS Won the First Prize of 2021 Sichuan Province Science and Technology Award

On March 25, 2022, the Sichuan Science and Technology Award Conference was held in Chengdu. In the conference, the project ‘Constructing a new system for precise prevention and treatment of dental caries and endodontic diseases based on the biological primitive state’ led by Professor Hu Tao's won the first prize of Sichuan Science and Technology Progress Award, and the project ‘Design and synthesis of Janus-Type nucleosides and its application in the treatment of oral mucosal diseases’ led by Professor Chen Qianming's won the first prize of Sichuan Natural Science Award.

In the project, Prof. Hu Tao's team proposed a new classification of endodontic structures and scientific proposal for clinical trials that can guide clinical practice, and realized precise treatment in difficult root canals through three-dimensional reconstruction technology, improvement of root canal filling, etc. The project has established a million-level database in Sichuan Province and provided targeted prevention and disease control guidance to key population. The risk factors of diseases have been analyzed. The oral health management program was carried out for disease control of the key population of children aged 3-5 and 12 years, and to maintain the state of natural teeth. The project has been applied in more than 60 dental hospitals. More than 20 million of patients have been benefit from the project. In all, the project improves the academic development of operative dentistry and endodontics. Precise root canal therapy with the assistance of instrument can reduce the damage of tooth structure, which has brought significant benefit to the patients.

The project led by Prof. Chen Qianming firstly proposed and proved the new concept of Janus-Type nucleosides and indicated their broad-spectrum antiviral activity; then, the self-assembly mechanism of “nano-flower" formed by Janus-Type nucleosides was systematically elucidated; to this end, developed a monomeric selfassembled nucleoside nanoparticle (SNNP) into an efficient drug delivery system, which can achieve the purpose of enhancing efficacy and reducing toxicity. These works laid the foundation for the basic and application research of Janus-Type nucleosides in stomatology.
